Teen Therapist in Massachusetts

Our licensed therapists help teens work through anxiety, depression, school stress, and identity questions, in person at six offices or by telehealth statewide.

Signs Your Teen May Benefit from Therapy

Teens don't always have the words for what they're feeling, but a few patterns tend to stand out to parents.

  • Pulling away from friends, family, or activities they used to enjoy
  • Grades slipping or sudden trouble at school
  • Mood swings, irritability, or emotional outbursts that feel out of character
  • Changes in sleep, appetite, or energy
  • Talk of feeling hopeless, overwhelmed, or engaging in risky behavior

If your teen is showing any of these signs, therapy can give them a private, non-judgmental space to work through what's going on.

How Teen Therapy Works at Elevate Counseling

Our intake session includes both the parent and the teen, so each of you gets a chance to share your perspective, the parent first and the teen second. From there, your therapist builds a treatment plan around your teen's goals. Ongoing sessions are with the teen alone, giving them room to speak openly without a parent in the room.

Treatment draws on modalities including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps teens examine how their thoughts influence their behavior
  • Solution focused therapy, which builds concrete goals despite ongoing challenges
  • Person centered therapy, which lets teens lead the conversation while the therapist facilitates without judgment

What Parents Can Do to Get Their Teen Started

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, but the process itself is simple.

  • 1

Call (508) 297-1491 or submit a contact form describing what you're noticing in your teen.

  • 2

Our intake team matches your teen with a therapist based on age, needs, and location.

  • 3

Attend the first session together, then let your teen take it from there.

According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the relationship between a teen and their therapist is one of the most important factors in whether therapy helps, which is why we take care to match each teen with a clinician they can trust.
